South Nanaimo

A lot of people feel that South Nanaimo is the next big opportunity for buying quality lifestyle. An impoverished area for decades, it's starting to be bought up by people with better plans for the lush old properties and the vintage homes, many of which have stunning ocean views. If downtown Nanaimo is going to be something to shout about, South Nanaimo is going to be a very interesting place for investors.

This was the "South Ward" in old Nanaimo, when it was mostly miners' cabins and rich Victorian homes overlooking the harbour and the estuary. Many of the original homes are still in place, but unfortunately a great many of them are falling apart.

The name South Nanaimo usually applies to everything south of downtown, often referring to areas as far south as Chase River and Cinnabar Valley (10-15 minutes south of Downtown Nanaimo). Really, though, South Nanaimo is best used to describe the land between Nob Hill and Petroglyph Park.
