Festive Fall Activities
Fall is certainly one of the most beautiful times of the year. Here on Vancouver Island, giant trees shine in resplendent color, creating a tapestry of reds, golds, and greens in our communities. There are many ways to take in the vibrant festivities and beauty of the season; our team is here to share with you a few of our favorite autumn traditions.
Graeme
Ice skating, seeing the fairy doors at Neck Point Park with the kids, exploring Newcastle Island, boating, mountain biking (it’s no longer dusty and hot!), and indoor rock climbing.
Ashley
I like going to McNabb’s Corn Maze and enjoying the fall leaves on my favorite walks: Linley Valley trail, Buttertubs Marsh, and Westwood Lake Trail.
Jeff
I like to put the skates on in the fall. Whether it’s a beer-league pick up game or a fun skate with my partner, I love to be on the ice. We also really like to take a trip somewhere on the island. It’s a bonus if our accommodations have an outdoor hot tub. Fall is the start of the NFL season which means cozy Sunday afternoons watching the Seahawks (with the fireplace keeping us warm).
Tara
This time of year I love motorcycle rides with my partner on the scenic forest roads. The smells of autumn leaves, fresh air after a rainfall, and the feel of a cool breeze mixed with warm sunshine are all amplified on the bike. I also love building the first fires of the season in our woodstove. Heating our home with the deep warmth of a wood fire — and the labour of love in building those fires — brings a very special comfort and peace.
Natalie
I of course love the McNabb’s Corn Maze and Farm! It is tradition to take home a pumpkin for carving, and always a treat to stop in at the Cassidy Country Kitchen for a warm meal with delicious comfort foods. I also love the Victoria Ghost Tours, a fun hour with a talented storyteller about the spooky history of Victoria. These tours take place year-round, but I find they are best enjoyed in October when they have special Halloween tours!
If I am looking to enjoy Autumn scenery, I will always go to Hemer Lake Park. It’s full of huge and magnificent maple trees that create an enchanting path of fall colours. I love to finish these seasonal walks off with a visit to Coco Café for a warm drink.
